For our wedding, we're making a birkon with songs and pictures that bring us joy and that we hope to use each Shabbat in the home we build together. While most of these songs are in Hebrew (or Aramaic!), we are aiming to include translations for as many as possible.
Every act of translation is an act of interpretation, and we want our birkon to reflect the interpretive tradition that has helped shape us on our religious and personal journeys and continue to guide our understanding of the texts we hold dear. As a result, we're inviting our friends and families to contribute translations of the songs we've chosen.
We have a spreadsheet where you can sign up to translate a song, zemer, piyut, or table of contents that moves you so that we can have your voice with us at our Shabbat table. You can access it here or below; just fill out your name next to a song and then send your translation to ricki.heicklen@gmail.com once you're done.
